In 2019, Southern Development Homes joined the effort to fight global poverty by partnering with Homes for Hope and Hope International, national nonprofit organizations that works with builders and their trade partners to raise funds that assist aspiring entrepreneurs living in developing countries start their own businesses through small-enterprise loans. This allows home builders and their trade partners to do what they do every day- build quality homes and work together to raise funds as part of a broader effort to alleviate poverty in 16 countries around the world. In April 2020, the Hope Home sold bringing the first Homes for Hope project for Southern Development Homes and Charlottesville to completion.

The sale of Charlottesville’s local Home for Hope house is located in Payne’s Mill, one of Southern Development Homes’ Charlottesville neighborhoods in the downtown area.
