Andrew Shaw joined Southern Development as an Assistant Project Manager in early 2015.
Favorite place to eat in Charlottesville?
Bodos, hands down.
Favorite thing about Charlottesville/Albemarle?
We have all the conveniences and opportunities of city life all the while just a short drive from the mountains!
Best way to spend a weekend?
Canoeing on the James River with my wife.
Favorite event or thing to do around this time of year?
James River Batteau Festival. Each year for the past 30 years, different groups from central Virginia have come together to take a week long float from Lynchburg to Richmond in homemade replicas of cargo vessels from the late 1700’s. I built my first batteau during my sophomore year in college, and have been floating the river every year since. Navigating a 45 foot long wooden boat down the shallow and rocky James is an absolute blast and I look forward to the week all year long.
Favorite thing about home construction/Sales?
The whole really is greater than the sum of the parts. We bring all these different groups of people together, from excavators to trim carpenters, each with their own skill set and expertise. Together, we do something none of us could do on our own. I have a great time getting to watch the whole thing come together.
Favorite Southern Development Floor Plan?
The Belleview. Lots of square footage with very little wasted space!
Favorite thing about your home?
The deck that I am looking forward to building this fall!
Most exotic place you’ve ever traveled?
During my senior year in college, I had the opportunity to travel to India with 12 friends, guided by a friend whose parents are Indian. We went to his grandparents 50th wedding anniversary celebration in Goa, and toured through the rest of the country seeing everything from the Taj Mahal to the Himalayan Mountains.
What do you like best about working for Southern Development?
The pace. There is always more to get done than can be done in the day and I enjoy the challenge of a full schedule. Whether it is expectant homeowners or subs that need answers, there is always something that demands attention. We aren’t bored often!
