A voluntary certification program, EasyLiving Homes features make a home more livable for homeowners and visitors in all seasons of life: first-time homebuyers, young families, career professionals, active adults and those living with temporary or long-term disabilities. Whether it is strollers, grocery carts, wheelchairs, 330-pound football players or heavy furniture and equipment, all will move easily and safely in an EasyLiving Home.
EasyLiving Home features include:
Easy Access with a step-free entrance from a driveway, sidewalk or other firm route into the central living area.
Easy Passage because the exterior door that provides the step-free entrance and EVERY interior passage door on the main level (including bathrooms) is at least a 3’0″ or 2’10″ door, or a 2’8″ pocket door, or other solution that provides 32 inches of clear passage space. Non-passage closet doors are not required to meet the 32 inch clear passage standard, but this can be an added advantage where feasible.
Easy Elements means thoughtful placement on electric outlets, place higher on the wall for easy reach. Use of latch handles on all doorways and many other features including lower counter heights.
Easy Use because the main floor includes a kitchen, an entertainment area, a bedroom, and at least one full bathroom with sufficient maneuvering space . . . all on the main floor.
Congratulations to Larry Stremkis, a two-time SDH owner, whose team won the Softball World Masters Championship held in Las Vegas! Larry was a member of the VACAR (Virginia and North Carolina) team and came in first out of the ten teams from all over the country. His brother, Jerry, played for Wisconsin and came in third place.
For over a year now, SDH has partnered with Sigora Solar to offer our customers easy and affordable alternative energy solutions. In fact, all the homes built in The Woods at Burnet Commons are pre-wired for solar panel systems. With the help of an installed 1kW Solar System, we’ve been able to decrease the carbon footprint of our model at The Woods by over 1,700lbs in 2014 alone! That’s the equivalent of 21 trees.
Facts:
19-20% of household energy consumption will be produced by the 1kW system (a 5kW system will produce 97%!)
Net-Metered systems mean that a kWh for kWh credit will be given by Dominion when production is greater than consumption
The power coming from installed solar systems micro-invertors is significantly “cleaner” than the grid, therefore increasing appliance lifespan throughout the home.
Southern Development is proud to support the ecoREMOD project.
