Every year, we send several of our team members to the International Builders Show to ensure that our customers have access to the very latest in home design, efficiency, and technological advances.
This year the show was in Las Vegas and focused on home designs for the future. As boomers age, we saw many trends that allowed them to age in place, making everything accessible from frameless showers to home elevators. Understanding that a growing number of homes were going to be multi-generational homes, floor plans are being designed with flex rooms such as an office that could be a second bedroom on the first floor.
Tech integration is picking up interest. Thermostats, lights, alarm systems and even appliances are being designed so that homeowners can control them remotely, through their smartphones.
The home is way more than a shelter now, and within the decade the typical new home will be a networked high tech system.
