EarthCraft Virginia Honors local builder as Sustainable Leadership Award Winner
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – April 2, 2014– Southern Development Homes has won the Single Family Builder of the Year award as part of EarthCraft Virginia’s 5th Annual Sustainable Leadership Awards, the organization’s yearly awards presentation to recognize Virginia leaders in the adoption of green, sustainable housing. Southern Development Homes was honored on Tuesday evening at a ceremony in downtown Richmond which brought together over 100 individuals representing home builders, non-profit and for-profit housing providers and developers, affordable housing advocates and those interested in creating green housing opportunities in Virginia.
As a leader in the local homebuilding community since 1999, founder Frank Ballif knew that when it came to sustainable building, Southern Development Homes had a larger responsibility to its clients and community. Each EarthCraft Home built by Southern Development Homes follows such strict standards that they provide owners 30-40% more efficient living expense than the typical new home built today.
Each year, EarthCraft Virginia presents awards in a variety of categories to regional builders, developers and other stakeholders who demonstrate superior dedication to the advancement of sustainable housing. Winners are honored in a variety of categories to cover new construction, renovation, single family homes, multifamily housing and more.
“The 5th Annual Sustainable Leadership Awards recognize the best initiatives in sustainable housing in Virginia over the past year,” says EarthCraft Virginia Executive Director, K.C. Bleile. “In the five years that we have hosted this awards ceremony, we have been amazed by the dedication and growth of the individuals that we have been privileged to work with. This year’s nominees and winners are no exception, all of whom having gone above and beyond standard building expectations to become the leaders in transforming Virginia’s home building market with high performance, sustainable homes.”
“Southern Development Homes is honored to be recognized by EarthCraft Virginia for raising the sustainability bar in our community,” said Charlie Armstrong, Vice President, Land Development, Southern Development Homes. “Our investment in our community goes far beyond sustainable homes, and we will continue to commit to making the Central Virginia region a more sustainable place to live.”
